Source verification through the Medical Council of Canada is the foundational step and typically runs about three to four months. It has to start before your provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons can issue the registration ruling needed for your work permit — provincial licensing builds on top of verified credentials, it doesn't run in parallel — so the single biggest lever on your overall timeline is starting verification as early as possible. Once SVR is underway, CCFP certification and clinic placement can run alongside it, and the provincial registration step adds roughly another six to eight weeks at the back end. This verification window is exactly the part Careviv is currently covering for new applicants.
No — you arrive and start practising on a work permit, not on permanent residency. The work permit is LMIA-exempt and sponsored by the Regional Health Authority on the back of your signed offer of employment from a partner clinic. Every clinic in our network has also pre-committed to providing the provisional supervisor that the provincial College requires during your initial registration, so supervision is built into the placement rather than something you have to source on your own. Once you're in Canada and accumulating work experience, you become eligible for the dedicated PR pathways for physicians — Canada's Express Entry category for medical doctors and the Provincial Nominee streams that reserve spaces specifically for physicians — both of which are typically faster than the general routes. Exact PR timing depends on which pathway you qualify for and is confirmed during your consultation.
