Understand how OINP EOI scores work after Ontario's 2026 redesign, what can be calculated now and why CRS points are separate.
An OINP calculator can help organize the information that may affect an Ontario immigration profile, but it cannot currently produce an official invitation score. Ontario redesigned the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program on June 26, 2026. The province closed the former eight streams, stopped accepting new Expressions of Interest under those streams and announced the new Ontario Workforce Priority stream. Its EOI system is expected to open later in summer 2026.
That transition matters. Many search results still describe the old Ontario PNP points calculator, while some tools mix an Ontario EOI score with the federal Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System, or CRS. They are different systems. This guide explains what changed, how the old OINP score worked, what can be checked now and how to prepare without relying on an outdated calculator.
This article is general information, not immigration or legal advice. Ontario and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, or IRCC, make the formal decisions. Always confirm current rules on their official websites before acting or paying a fee.
As of July 2026, there is no single official OINP calculator that can reliably predict a score or invitation under the redesigned program.
You can still organize your documents, review the announced pathway requirements and calculate a separate federal CRS score if Express Entry is relevant. Do not treat an old OINP score calculator result as a current invitation forecast.
Ontario's first phase of OINP redesign removed these former streams:
The replacement Ontario Workforce Priority stream is designed around three broad pathways. Ontario says the TEER 0-3 pathway will cover skilled workers with a full-time, permanent Ontario job offer; a separate route will cover self-employed physicians; and a TEER 4-5 pathway will cover workers with qualifying permanent job offers. Each pathway has its own announced work-experience, language, education, licensing or employer conditions.
The province also says the new EOI system is anticipated to open later in summer 2026. Until it opens and Ontario publishes the operational scoring grid, an online OINP points calculator cannot know every current factor, weight or invitation threshold.
EOI means Expression of Interest. It is a profile used to tell a province that you want to be considered for a nomination pathway. An EOI is not a nomination, a permanent residence application or a guarantee of an invitation.
Under Ontario's former system, eligible registrants entered a stream-specific selection pool. Ontario assigned points to the answers in the profile and could conduct general or targeted draws. Candidates still had to meet all stream eligibility criteria and prove the factors for which they claimed points.
The distinction remains useful when the new system opens:
An EOI calculator can assist with arithmetic, but it cannot replace those decisions.
The OINP EOI score and the federal CRS score are not interchangeable.
An OINP EOI score ranks candidates within an Ontario selection pool under Ontario's rules. The CRS ranks eligible Express Entry profiles in the federal pool. IRCC's official CRS criteria include core and spouse factors, skill-transferability factors and additional points. A provincial or territorial nomination accepted through Express Entry currently adds 600 CRS points, up to the federal maximum for additional points.
This means an OINP CRS calculator search can refer to two separate calculations:
Calculate and label them separately. A high CRS score does not itself create an Ontario invitation, and an old Ontario EOI total is not a current CRS result.
The old EOI grid did not assign the same factors to every stream. Depending on the stream, Ontario could score factors such as:
The old international student stream calculator therefore did not work like a Masters Graduate profile. The former Employer Job Offer streams included employment factors, while graduate streams emphasized education, language and regional study factors. Even under one system, one universal number was misleading.
Old scoring tables are still useful for understanding Ontario's policy goals, but they are historical. Do not submit, spend money or make a relocation decision on the assumption that the same eoi grid will govern the Ontario Workforce Priority stream.
Read Ontario's June 26 program update and the current regulation. The announced TEER 0-3 pathway generally requires a full-time, permanent Ontario job offer and one of several work-experience routes, with exemptions for licensed applicants. Ontario announced minimum language and post-secondary education requirements, subject to occupation-specific rules.
The announced self-employed physician pathway does not require a job offer, but a physician must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, hold an eligible certificate of registration and be eligible to bill OHIP.
The TEER 4-5 pathway has different work-experience, language and education requirements. Do not use points to compensate for missing pathway eligibility.
Create a list of every fact likely to appear in an EOI and the document that proves it. Depending on the pathway, this may include:
Record expiry dates. A calculator can produce a mathematically correct total from evidence that is no longer valid.
When the portal reopens, use Ontario's current instructions and the questions shown in the live EOI. Check whether Ontario has published a new eoi points calculator or stream selector. Save the date and version of every rule you use.
Do not copy a score from a blog or video published before the redesign. Search results and third-party tools may take time to update.
If the new pathway connects to Express Entry, use IRCC's official CRS tool and criteria for the federal calculation. Keep language test, education, work experience and family information current in the Express Entry profile.
A pnp canada point calculator may refer to federal eligibility, a CRS score or a province's own EOI score. Confirm which one it calculates before relying on the result.
Ontario publishes invitation results and program updates. A previous draw threshold shows what happened in that draw; it does not set a guaranteed future cutoff. Targeted draws can apply occupation, region or other attributes in addition to a score.
Applicants often compare several provincial tools. Each one belongs to a different jurisdiction or program.
The safest approach is to write the program name beside every total. Never transfer points from one province's grid to another.
While the new scoring grid is pending, use a worksheet rather than a speculative total.
This process is less satisfying than a single number, but it is more accurate during a program transition.
Ontario removed the former eight streams in June 2026. A tool that still asks only about those streams is historical unless it clearly explains the transition.
A competitive score cannot cure a missing job offer, language result, licence or other mandatory requirement. Ontario also states that an invitation does not mean a candidate qualifies.
The two totals serve different selection systems. Keep them separate and use IRCC's current criteria for CRS.
Ontario can conduct targeted draws. The lowest score in a past draw is not a promised threshold.
The former system required candidates to support claimed scoring factors. Inaccurate or misleading information can lead to refusal and other consequences. Calculate from documents, not memory.
No consultant, recruiter or calculator can guarantee an invitation, nomination or permanent residence. Verify representatives through the appropriate regulator and use official payment channels.
The redesign specifically identifies a pathway for self-employed physicians. Ontario says candidates must be in good standing with the provincial medical regulator, hold an independent, academic or provisional certificate and be eligible to bill through OHIP. These are current announced requirements, not a promise that any particular doctor will qualify.
Physician registration, immigration status and employment or practice arrangements are separate workstreams. A doctor should verify all three before making an irreversible move. Careviv's doctor relocation overview explains how clinic opportunities can fit into a broader relocation plan, while Ontario, IRCC and the medical regulator remain the decision-makers.
