PEI accepts qualifying UK, Irish or Australian postgraduate family-medicine training and certification as an alternative to CCFP. An applicant must still satisfy the separate LMCC-or-alternative requirement and all other General registration conditions.
The policy accepts postgraduate training completed in the UK, Ireland or Australia and family-medicine certification from one of those three countries; it does not require the two accepted countries to be identical. If the postgraduate training occurred outside all three, the matter is at the Registrar’s discretion.
No. Recognition of UK family-medicine training and certification replaces the CCFP requirement, not the separate LMCC requirement. You must hold the LMCC or satisfy one of PEI’s published alternatives.
Published alternatives include specified complete US examination sequences, or a recognized medical degree plus MCCQE Part I and at least one satisfactory year of postgraduate training. PEI also publishes a five-year post-training practice alternative, subject to the Registrar’s review.
The five years must be recent practice as the most responsible physician after completing postgraduate training. Each counted year must reach at least 0.5 FTE or 900 hours, and the practice evidence must be satisfactory to the Registrar.
For General registration, the published standard is at least 450 hours of clinical practice as the most responsible physician during the previous three years. The College also reviews scope, practice history and gaps.
No. CPSPEI states that it does not currently operate a PEI PRA route. A physician who successfully completed an accepted Canadian PRA may be considered under PEI rules, but that is not an application to a local “PRA-PEI” programme.
Generally, no. The CCA is designed for physicians already practising under qualifying Provisional registration and is not a substitute for the initial UK-to-PEI General registration requirements.
No. CPSPEI expressly notes that successful registration does not guarantee employment. Authorization to work in Canada, recruitment, credentialing and the employment contract remain separate from the College’s licensing decision.
Only if PEI is your Atlantic home province, your majority physical practice is there and your General registration is unrestricted and otherwise eligible. The Atlantic Registry is not a way to bypass the initial PEI application, and you must receive confirmation before practising in another Atlantic province.
